Exhange Error on Startup of outlook

Harry Athey

I have outlook 2007 attached to an exchange server.

We had to rebuild the exchange server this weekend. We replaced all the data
using the exmerge tool. Now the end users are recieiving the following when
they try to open outlook:

"Your mailbox has been temporarily moved on Microsoft Exchange server. A
temporary mailbox exists, but might not have all of your previous data.

You can connect to the temporary mailbox or work offline with all of your
old data. If you choose to work with your old data, you cannot send or
receive e-mail messages."

If the users select to use the temporary mailbox, outlook reports that it is
online with exchange and not connected to exchange. It seems to not be
copying data to the local computer.

How do I fix this?

This is because you started Exchange with a new database instead of
restoring it. This brings your clients' cache out of synch with what is
on-line. Rename the ost-file (offline cache) to .old and have Outlook
reconnect and resynch with Exchange.

OK, I renamed the ost file to .old and rebooted, it still gives me the same
error.

Has the server been recovered or did you rebuild it from scratch? In case of
the last the mail profiles are broken. Tried recreating one manually
already?

The server was a breuild from scratch and the old mail was brought back into
the server using exmerge.

I fixed the problem as follows:

1) Created a fake pop3 mail account so I could delete the only account on
outlook.
2) created a junk data file and connected it to the pop3 account.
3) deleted the exchange account
4) exited outlook
5) opened the mail utility in control panel
6) created a new exchange account linked to the same user on the server
7) deleted the fake pop3 account
8) deleted the junk data file
9) opened outlook and did a send/recieve to sync the messages

All is well now.

Thanks for the help
