Exit Design Mode by Default - Word

My problem is the word document is always in 'design mode' so users can't
check/uncheck right away, unless they know where to find the 'exit design
mode' button.

How to have 'exit design mode' by default in Word so that checkboxes created
are ready to be checked or unchecked by users?

Would be very grateful if someone could share.

It seems as if you are using the check boxes from the Control Toolbox
toolbar? If so, the security settings will force Word into design mode.
You could lower the security settings, but a safer approach is to use a
different method, such as a protected form. See
