Exiting from Outlook - Problem with Vista

J

John M Green Jr

When I exit from Outlook using Vista, it does not close all processes so
that when I try to reopen Outlook, the icon indicates that it is trying to
load but nothing happens.I then have to go to control, alt, delete to
terminate multiple copies of outlook.exe that have remained open in order to
reopen the program. In surfing the web, it appears that this is not an
isolated problem on my computer but it appears that no one has a solution.

Can you help???

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Covey Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing mail.

If Outlook starts in Safe Mode and closes cleanly, then I would restart in regular mode and disable add-ins one by one until you find the culprit. Check with its programmer/company to see if there is an updated Vista version available.

Thanks. It appears that Adobe Acrobat 8 was the culprit.

Ugh - and I understand that Adobe will not be making any Vista patches in the near future. YOu may want to check with Adobe on this.
