Exmerge appointments do not import correctly and/or problem opening appointments

One of our users can't open any of his appointments as they pop up on the
screen (Office 2000). When they attempt to open many of their appointments
in their Outlook Calendars, they get messages like "Unable to open this
item." "The end date you entered occurs before the start date", etc

As background, I used exmerge to export and later import a bunch of users
mailboxes (Exchange 2000). On one user, I get lots of the following errors
similar to the following two:

Description:

An appointment with the subject "Dad's B-Day" was saved to mailbox
(e-mail address removed). The start time is missing, so the calendaring agent
cannot publish the free/busy information for this appointment. To correct
this, please delete the appointment and recreate it.


I have tried starting up Outlook with /CleanFreeBusy and /CleanReminders but
that did not work.

Any ideas?
