Expanding Normal.dot

D

David Robinson

I use Word 2000 and have a template file Normal.dot which holds just a
couple of trivial macros.

Why is it that this Normal.dot file grows progressively larger as time goes
by? After a year or so I find that it has grown from its starting size of
around 50k to around 300k, at which point calling Word hangs the machine!
As this has now happened to me several times, I now know to reboot and then
use Explorer to replace the overgrown Normal.dot with an original version,
which I have secreted away in a different folder. All is then well again.

What's going on here? Is there a fix?
