Expires After Feature

What does the Expires After option do exactly? (This is found on the Options button when composing a new mail message.) I've tried using it on our Exchange system to see if it would cause the user to be unable to open it after it expires and all it does is put a line through it. The user can still open it. What am I missing? Thanks.

You're not missing anything. That's the normal functionality. To block users
from opening expired messages, you'd need to add Windows Rights Management
Server.
