Explanation of Asset Tracking Sample?

Hi

I'm trying to build a form that works in the same way as the asset
tracking sample (I was planning to just edit the sample, but it seems
as though you can't change the elements in the data source).

I'm having problems with switching from the summary to the detailed
view - I've looked at the associated .xsl file, but I can't quite
figure out what they're doing. Also, I can't seem to get any changes
I make to the .xsl file reflected in the form itself in design mode,
even using mode="xdreserve" and saving the manifest file.

Is there anywhere that has an explanation of what's happening in the
sample?
