Explanation of printer tray settings/ WP behavior vs. Word

Hello,

I am the network admin in a legal office. I'm trying to assist a prior
WP user who is attempting to print single envelopes in Word 2003. She
is browsing to a folder that contains nothing but individual addresses
all in separate files. Most of these are in WP format, but are being
opened by Word and automatically converted to Word format. She
highlights the address, and then goes to Tools, Letters and Envelopes
to print. She was having problems always having to press the Green
button on her HP Laserjet 4 Plus to get the envelope to print from tray
1 which is also the Manual Feed tray. We tried to get around this by
changing a setting in the Letters and Envelopes window from manual feed
to Automatically Select. This did work, but now when she goes through
the same process with different address files sometimes the setting has
reverted. Why is that? What printer settings are stored in templates
for each file? Is it possible to create a new template with the correct
printer settings that she could base all of these address files on?
Also, how exactly does she base the address files on the n ew template?

Any information to explain how Word deals with this will be helpful.
All I hear is how WP always worked great. I do know that with WP the
printer selections were stored with each document.

Thanks in advance for any help.
