Is it possible to acquire a plugin or better still a formulae to calculate
the above in excel for Mac. I am aware of such tools in Excel for Windows.

Hi,

Microsoft Excel's graphing capabilities include exponential moving
average capability. Use the Add Trendline option from the Chart menu
when you have a graph selected. If the Trendline option is grayed out
then that kind of graph does not support trend lines.

In Excel's help here is extensive detail about how to create and work
with graphs with moving averages. Just search on the topic Moving Average.

For an equally-weighted moving average, you may use Add Trendline on your XY
(Scatter) or Line chart. Or, you can use the AVERAGE worksheet function on
your worksheet time series data.

For exponential smoothing, you may use Tools | Data Analysis | Exponential
Smoothing. (Excel's Analysis ToolPak must be installed; see Excel's Help for
instructions.) Or, use worksheet formulas with appropriate weighting of your
worksheet time series data.

My book, Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel: Updated for Office XP, has
step-by-step details for exponential smoothing, including using Excel's
Solver to obtain the optimal smoothing constant.

Hi mike,

You're right on the money. I visited your web site and then Amazon to
check out your book.

Seems to me that you ought to post a new thread and put the title of the
book as the subject and announce how to purchase the book. Maybe the
chapter titles would be a good idea to include in the message.

Great job!

Thanks, but I think many posters and lurkers might regard such a post as
too-overt advertising. Rather than edure their wrath, I think I'll continue
to mention my book only when I can't provide a short answer.
