Exponents in the Denoninator?

How do you get an exponent in the denominator of a fraction? Such as
x^6/(2x^4), but in horizontal form without the "hats" to indicate the
exponent. When I use Insert, Equation it doen't allow the exponet.

Of course it allows exponents in denominators. You didn't say which
version of Word you're using (I'm assuming 2007), but both the "new"
equation editor in Word 2007, as well as the "old" one that's been in
every version of Word since version 2 allow exponents in denominators.
If you are in Word 2007, and you want to use the equation editor
you're probably used to using from previous versions of Word, it's
available in Insert > Object > Microsoft Equation 3.
