I have a large number of projects set up in the Project Center, and
would like to use the archiving feature to clear completed projects out
of the way. I would like to be able to access old project files if I
need them - the export/import feature sounds like the tool for me.
But I'm getting some strange behavior when I test it out. I created a
test project (called test project), and added a task, a few emails, and
a file to it. At this point "test project" has 3 collection points: the
project in the Project Center, the watch folder in the email pane, and a
watch folder in the Office Projects folder in the finder. So far so good.
I used File> Export... to create an archive file. I set it to archive
all objects, and delete them from Entourage. Afterwards, the project is
gone from the Project Center, the watch folder in the Finder is gone,
the Test Project folder in my email list of folders - remains (but has
no messages in it).
When I then re-import from Test Project.rge the following happens: 1)
"Test Project" returns to the Project Center with the task, email
messages and file all displayed in the Overview pane, 2) the "Test
Project" watch folder and file have returned to the Finder, 3) there are
now 3 folders in my list of email folders, labeled "test project",
"test project 1", and "test project.rge". This last folder, "test
project.rge" contains a sub-folder called "Folders On My Computer." None
of these folders contain any email messages.
So my questions:
1) Is this how archiving, then re-importing is supposed to behave?
2) Is there a way, upon re-import, to have only one folder in the email
list (similar to the finder's watch folder)?
3) Where are the messages that display in the Overview pane actually
kept?
Sorry about the lengthy detail. It was too strange to describe more
concisely and it's a bit disconcerting. If I use this for important
projects, from time to time I'll need to know I can get back to all the
data. Thanks
