Export Autocorrect entries MAC to PC

P

Peter Leevers

I use Word X to format and expand notes in shortened English prepared
on a PDA. The autocorrect feature is very useful and holds thousands
of entries. I have to start using another machine running Word 2000
for Windows.
How do I export my list, i.e, where is it on the Mac, and where should
it go so that it can be found on the PC? It will become the default
list for the application on the PC.

Many thanks for any help.

I did this some time ago the other way round from Word 97 to Mac, just
by simply typing over the words from Word 97. That text file I opened on
the Mac and with copy/paste into Autocorrect Window. Quite a job. I did
this because there was no pre-given autocorrectionlist for the Dutch
language. There is no Dutch version for Office for Mac at all.
Anyhow, You can open in users/library/preferences/microsoft the "MS
Office ACL [English (or whatever)]" preference file. Use Textedit or
BBedit. There you will find alle the words, but don't ask me how you
will see them, it looks quite chaotic. When you save this as a text
file, you may be able to transport it to the PC and do a lot of copy and
paste. I see that you have thousands of entries, so I really hope that
there is a better way.

I hope there's a better way, too... If you aren't doing a language switch,
you should just be able to move over the .acl file (AutoCorrectList), as you
would do between Macs. See if this article (on moving the list pc to pc)
helps out:
