Export contacts-Alternate way?

B

Bill

One staff member created a contact list for another staff member at our
non-proft. Now I'm trying to move those Outlook contacts from one computer to
another.

Unfortunately, export gives an error msg: Outlook can not start the required
translators, feature not currently installed. When I put in the CD, it says
Error 1706, setup can not find the required files.

Proposed SOLUTION: For now, I'd like to just copy the files that the Outlook
Contacts are in. It's going TO a new installation, so I could just copy the
file to the new computer.

QUESTION: While files are the Outlook Contacts stored in? Which files could
I copy from Computer A to Computer B, to get all the contacts and phone
numbers to show up on Computer B? Does someone know these file names?

Thank you,
Bill

If you're not connected to an Exchange server, then all of your Outlook data
(Inbox, Contacts, Outbox, Tasks, Calendar, etc.) are all in a single file
called the Personal Folders file or PST. If you want to transfer the data
to another PC, close Outlook on the source PC and copy the PST to a CD. On
the destination PC, copy the PST to the hard drive, remove the read-only
attribute, and start Outlook. Open the PST you just copied with
File>Open>Outlook Data File (or Personal Folders File, depending on version,
which you kept a secret), browse to the PST, select it, and click OK.
You'll now have access to all the data it contains. You can open its
Contacts fodler, select all of the entries with CTRL-A and then click
Edit>Copy to Folder, specifying that Outlook's default Contacts folder as
the destination.

If you want to transfer only the Contacts, on the source machine create a
new PST (File>New>Outlook Data File or Personal Folders File) and copy the
default Contacts folder to that PST. Close the PST with right-click>Close
and proceed as above.
