Export contacts in Business Contact Manager 2007

In Business Contact Manager 2007 if try and export contacts to a CSV file, it
only exports one column of information.

I've tried exporting with no filters and it creates the CSV with only one
column ("Category"). Can anyone else replicate this behavior? I think it is
a bug.

Your issue about exporting your contacts, can you give a bit more
information. How many contacts are you trying to export? What fields do you
have data in? Are you getting any error messages in the exprot log file?

One more question from me. Are you using English - United States locale?
Also the log file generated (if there is any) at the end of Export process
is very important as Jerry mentioned.

It happens if I export any number of contacts. I've tried with less than 10
as well as over 400. The result is always the same. Only one column of
information (the category column) is exported. So I have 400 rows with 1
column.
I have data in almost every field.
Where is the export log file? It isn't where I've saved the exported file.

You can find it under Control Panel> Regional and Language Options. Current
Format is your locale setting.
If export generates a log file, you'll see "View Log" button in the end of
export, before clicking Finish.

Here is the method I am using to export step-by-step.

1. File….Import and Export…Business Contact Manager for Outlook
2. Export a file
3. Comma Separated Values (.csv)
4. Business Contacts and Leads
5. File to export: C:\ExportFile.csv
6. Export

That exports every contact in the database. So I go look at ExportFile.csv.
There is one column (Category) and 7358 rows of data.

There is no log file.

Can someone try this and see if the same thing happens? I've tried it on
multiple operating systems and get the same thing each time.

contacts as you but that shouldn't make a difference. You mentioned you've
tried it with 400 contacts and got the same results.

What program are you looking at the CSV file in? Try Excel -- any
difference?

My only idea is to Check for Errors and see if the database is corrupted.
From the main menu, click on Business Contact Manager, Database Tools,
Manage Database. If that checks out, my best technical guess is that you
have Communists in your database...

I'm using Excel to open the CSV. The data just isn't there.

It must be an issue with the database. This is an old BCM database that has
been upgraded from 2003 to 2007, but we don't have any other issues with it.
I've opened a support incident with Microsoft. I'll post back with whatever
we find.

This is a remote database on a SQL Express 2005 server, if that makes any
difference.

You might have just found the answer. I remember some dialog, somewhere,
that says something like "disable exporting data from remotes" to prevent
someone from taking the data and leaving your company. I can't remember
where I saw it but that might be the difference. Maybe one of the BCM Team
will know...

its definitely an issue with the database. i tried creating a new one and i
could export everything normally. hopefully MS or someone from the BCM team
can shed some light on the situation.

Hi,
I cannot tell the exact cause of this issue right now, but I can suggest
some workarounds:

- You can export all the data into bcm formatted file, create a new database
and import the data. Since you don't see the problem, in new databases this
should solve the problem.

- You can back up the database using Business Contact Manager menu> Database
Tools> Manage Database and clicking on Back Up Database then you can restore
it into a new database (database will be same so I am not 100% sure this
will solve it)

These should solve the problem. In the mean time I will also try to create a
similar database, and see if same thing happens to me.
