Export Manageusers to Excel

I am using MS Project Server 2007 with SP1 installed. The workstation is
using IE7 and has Office 2007 installed.

When logged into Project Web Access with administrative rights and selecting
Manage Users under Server Settings I get a display of users in the system.
When I select Actions | Export to Excel it generates the following error:

Internet Explorer cannot download ManageUsers.aspx from <server dns>

The server does have an SSL certificate installed. Actions | Print appears
to access the same ManageUsers.aspx and works fine. Export to Excel from the
Resource Center works fine.

Anyone else having the same problem? Any suggestions on what to look for?

Further experimentation shows the following:

Export to Excel or Export Grid to Excel options in all cases except Project
Center and Resource Center are failing with similar errors.

Select the Print options or Print Grid options always works.

This has been tested from a workstation that is a member of the Active
Directory domain hosting the EPM server and from a workstation outside of the
domain with identical results.

Chuck,
I too am experiencing this same issue and have yet to find a work
around. I have full admin rights and all my active x seetings are setup
correctly. I have installed SP1 on the server and still I am unable to get
the export to excel function to work. The only place it works is on Gantt
Charts that I have found.

I too would appreciate any help I can get from the project experts as this
one has me baffled.

A partial solution.

I found a support article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812935

that indicated one of the problems might be IE7 security settings -
selecting "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"

I found an article on how to do this at:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kb...IEandExplorer/DoNotSaveEncryptedWebPages.html

This enables the Export to Excel feature and works for workstation in the
domain and outside of the domain.

The user expereince is as follows:

* Login to PWA
* Select My Tasks
* Select Actions | Export to Excel
* A dialog box appears asking if you want to open the file
* Select Open
* You will be prompted for a second login
* Another dialog box appears indicating the document is in a different
format than specified by the extension
* Select Yes and the export will launch Excel and succeed
* After closing Excel you will note a second IE7 window will have appeared
that must be manually closed. It will contain the URL of the file that was
attempting to launch.

It works, but it is ugly.

Any feedback from others appreciated on how to make this smoother.

For some reason it is launching a second IE7 window and not directly
converting the output to Excel link Project Center and Resource Center does.

This resolved all my Excel launch issues to date, just not user friendly.

Thanks Chuck for posting this. While it might not be the best it is
definately better then nothing, and I thank you for finding this and posting
it as it helps me out tremendously. Hopefully there will eventually be an
easier way to do this.

Chris,

Please note that while this work around works it causes other problems. One
thing I have noticed is it broke Windows Live Meeting for me.

Now if something fails I automatically check to see if I have "Do not save
encrypted pages to disk" enabled or not.

So beware of this workaround it may cause other issues.
