Export Maps - Editing a custom Map

Jeff N.

I have just become aware of the export mapping functionality in Project. I
am using Project 2003 Std. I have two questions -
1) the individual who showed me how to use the maps provided me with a copy
of his project plan. I use his plan to copy the maps into my plan through
the Organizer.
However, when I try to export my project using the export wizard and using a
existing map, it does not show up in the list of available maps. Do I need
to move them to the Global.MPT?
2) How do you edit an existing map or copy one to edit?

Thank You,
Jeff N.

Hi Jeff,

1. Yes, you'll need to copy the export map to your Global.MPT file. Export
maps are stored in Global, not the individual project file.

2. You can edit an export map by attempting to export data, select the map
and during the steps through the Export Wizard make your changes. Toward
the end of the Wizard you will be asked if you wish to save the changes.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Jeff,
1) Yes, export/import maps need to reside in your Project Global to be
accessible in the Export Wizard.
2) The only way I know to access the wizard is to go to File/Save As and
then specify a "save as type" that will call up the wizard when you hit
"save" (e.g. Save as Excel Workbook). In my opinion this is not very
convenient but apparently the developers only wanted users who were
really serious about using it to gain access. Go figure.

Thank You for all of the help. I spent appox. 3 hours researching this topic
on the web and in the Project 2003 book that I had purchased. This was not a
answer that jumped out at you. Once again Thank You very much.

Jeff,
You're welcome. The answers are actually in the Project Help file under
"Export map".
