Export Visio 2007 to adobe illustrator format

Hello Sharobel,

You can Save as svg (File / Save As) and then open the svg doc in
Illustrator (based on CS), although the some of the fill patterns don't
appear to translate perfectly.

Another option would be to just copy (from Visio) and paste (into
Illustrator) and in this situation the fill seems to be better behaved.

The reverse direction also works by the way.

Best regards

John

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
I want to import visio file to expression design. Since .ai is the only
vector graphics that is supported by expression design, I need to convert the
visio file to ai first. I tried exporting the visio file to pdf and renaming
it to “drawing1.aiâ€, but it doesn’t work (it is renamed as
“drawing1.ai.pdfâ€). May I know what I am missing?

Regards,
Sharobel

If you mean can I save a Visio document in Illustrator format (.ai) without
owning or having access to the application itself then the answer is no, not
as far as I'm aware.

I'm not quite clear on why Design won't open or at least import
xaml.......but one route might be to save to SVG and then convert to Design
as per this post by Tim Heuer, where he describes the process in a Channel 9
video. (I haven't watched myself yet so let me know how you get on.)

Best regards

John
