I need help. I am trying to figure out a way to export a project task created
in Sharepoint to MS Project. I am using MS Project 2007 and Sharepoint
Services 3.0. I also want to edit the task list (set in Gantt view) on MS
Project 2007. I only know that you can only edit a created project task
using Excel Web Access on Sharepoint.

Thanks.

Our company makes an Add In for MS Project 2007 that provides this feature.
Additionally, you can 'stay connected' so that MS Project and SharePoint can
synchronize their updates.

Here is a screencast showing the import:
http://www.teamdirection.com/screencasts/mspaddin_importsp_screencast.html

And here is the product page:
http://www.teamdirection.com/mspaddin

It works with the SharePoint Task List, Projects List and task lists from
the 'Fabulous Forty' site templates as well.

Thanks, John. Anyway, I'd like to know if it's possible to export a project
task created in Sharepoint to MS Project possible without using any add-in
tool?

Here's how I would do this to do a one-way export tasks information in
SharePoint list to Project.

1. make a test task in Project (target) which emulates how you want the
target to be (define those fields you know you will be providing from
source.

2. From Project export this test task into an Excel spreadsheet. Look
a the format and structure of the data.

3. In SharePoint export or link the data to an Excel spreadsheet

4. In Excel look at how that SharePoint data is displayed in Excel.
With Excel reformat the data (probably by using forumalae to transform
data from one worksheet to another) to make it look just like Project
created it in your test (step 2).

5. In Project, import this transformed data

Hello,

There are actually 4 ways to do this :

1. Buy an Add-in that : IntelliGantt from Team direction, its a build in tool to ease the job.

This link has product information -http://www.teamdirection.com/mspaddin/index.html

Here they share video to import list tasks to MSP -

2. You can write a Managed Code for it. Here is the Complete reference for it :

3. Import your list to EXL then from EXL to MS Project.

4. Import Tasks to Outlook from there to MSP. This is manual but codeless process.

a. On Sharepoint list -> Create -> Tracking -> Project Tasks (list).

b. Add Tasks to the list.

c. Go to ?Actions? -> Connect to Outlook. This will import tasks to Outlook.

d. Open MS Project -> Tools -> Import Outlook Tasks.
