Exporting after trial version has expired

I had a trial version of Microsoft Office 2003 for Students & teachers...
when the trial expired, I bought Microsoft Office XP. I tried to import the
..pst file into Outlook (xp), but it says it's not compatible. I believe it
would be work if I could export the dtuff from the old account (2003) into a
..csv file, and then import them into the new account (xp), but since the
trial has expired, the import/export function is greyed out in the outlook
2003. Any suggestions? This is really driving me batty...

After doing a little more research, I see that there is another way to do
this, by going to file/data file management/add/ outlook 97-2002 .pst - but I
still get the error that the command is not available because the application
is in reduced functionality mode... aarrrgghhhhh... if anyone knows a
workaround, I will deem you the smartest person online : -)

I have tested the data file mgmnt angle..didn't work. I have pulled down a
trial version from the Office 2003 site to get the application back in full
functionality and attemted to utilize import/export from 2003 to XP (with
Outlook back up and running) and still ...no luck. The import function, when
migrating from Office 2003 back to a previous version looks to it's
unavailble - an error message stating that the file is imcompatible or
corrupted is still generated when trying to import or even copy and paste
the .pst files. I hope that there is a recovery method, it looks like a one
way migration path so far.

of Office programs?
A.Yes. Since document formats in Office 2003 Editions are the same as those
in Office XP, Office 2000, and Office 97, they are compatible with those
versions.
Specifically:

• Binary File formats for Excel 2003, PowerPoint 2003, and Word 2003 remain
the same and are compatible with previous versions dating to Office 97.
• An Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) can now be saved as a new binary
format, which uses Unicode and increases the storage limit to approximately
20 gigabytes (GB). An Outlook 2003 .pst file is not compatible with previous
versions of Outlook, but the old format is the default.

• Access 2003 has no change to the file format as previous versions, so you
can open Access 2003 files in Microsoft Access version 2002. Note There is an
Access 2000 file format, in addition to Access 2003 and Access 2002 file
formats. The Access 2000 file format is the default, but users or
administrators can change the default to Access 2003 or Access 2002 formats.

You can't use export and allow it to create the PST for you, since it will
always cretae one in the new Unicode format. INstead you have two choices.
The first is to create an old-style PST with File>New>Outlook Data
File>Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst). Then you can export your
PST to this. When you run the export wizard and it asks you for a PST,
browse to the old-style one you've created.

The second method, and I recommend this because exporting an importing loses
data, is to create the old-style PST as above and then right-click each
folder in your current PST, choosing Copy from the context menu that pops
up, and specifying the root of the old-style PST (i.e., "Personal Folders"
or whatever you named it) as the destination. Once all of your folders have
been copied, close the old-style PST with right-click>Close, close Outlook,
and then you'll be able to use that PST in Outlook 2002. DON'T import it.
Open it with File>Open>Outlook Data File, then make it your delivery
location at the bottom left on Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next. Close and
restart Outlook and you'll be back in business.

that worked for the saved email, what about the address book and calendar
information...can that be moved also? By the way, thanks for your help.

There is no address book. The Outlook Address Book is just a view of your
Contacts folder.

If you didn't copy the Calendar as well, then go back and do so. My
original instructons said to copy ALL the folders in the PST. That would
have included Calendar, Contacts, Inbox, Tasks, Notes, Journal, Sent Items,
and so on. Obviously you don't have to copy Deleted Items and you also
don't have to copy Outbox.
