Exporting contacts - how?

N

Nikko963

I need to export some of my contacts to give them to another user.

If I Export as a tab-delimited text file, it gives me all of my
contacts rather than the subset I want.

If I Export as items in a category, I don't seem to have a way of
importing that into MS Outlook which is what my co-worker needs.

What the heck is up with that? I can import from other products such as
ACT but not another one of Microsoft's products?

I'm sure I must be doing something wrong.

Thanks for all advice.

THe easy way for a few contacts is to drag them to a folder on the
desktop. You'll get the corresponding VCF that you will be able to
import back the same way on the other computer.

Many other apps also accept the VCF format,

You could get my shareware scripts "Export-Import Entourage" from

MacScripter.net <http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>

which will allow you both to export a subset of contacts by category (or by
selected contacts, if you prefer) and will also retain the category info. It
includes a utility for converting the text file into precisely the format of
..csv file that Outlook needs to import it, and also manages Mac-to-Windows
conversion of special characters, etc. There are also exporters and
converters for calendar events, tasks and notes as well (and some rather
more lengthy methods described for message folders too). Make sure to read
both the Installation and Outlook sections of the ReadMe that comes with the
scripts.

Alternatively, you could drag out selected contacts from Entourage to a
folder on you desktop to make .vcf files. Always drag fewer than 200 at a
time or you lose some. You can bring or send (as email attachments) the .vcf
files over to the PC and import them there (drag them in, I think) into
Outlook. They will lose lots of fields, get many phone fields wrong, lose
category info, mangle special characters and so on, and otherwise be highly
untrustworthy, but will get basic things like name, email address, and
(mostly) home and work address OK. And it's free.
