Exporting contacts

I posted this question a few weeks back and did not get a
response..trying again. I am exporting my Contacts list
to a PST file, I have subfolders/contacts and have
selected putting a tick include subfolders. All goes well
up to the point of actually doing the fucntion. I get a
message operation failed. This is Office Pro 2003. I can
backup the entire PST file (emails etc.) and moved it to
another CPU with Office 2002. The problem follows it to
the next machine. I have run the ScanPST and it did find
some errors, but said it was corrected. This used to work
for me. Apparently it must be in the PST file itself or
it would not have shown up on another computer.

Any suggestions will be helpful.

Why are you exporting if you do not need to change file formats?
Is this a PST file you created in Outlook 2003 and are trying to use in
earlier versions? If so, you can't. You would have to create a PST file in
the Outlook 97-2002 format while still in Outlook 2003 and copy your data
into it. Then copy that file to the other installation and open it there.
Abandon forever the notion of exporting.

The reason I am exporting is too only extract the
contacts from the PST file. I want to use the the
contacts on my laptop and not use the entire one gig pst
file. I have not seen an easy way to copy the contact
list which would work for me. When I see the copy
contacts it does not allow to paste on another drive or
Folder for transport.

That's not a reason to use export, nor should you.
It is easy to copy the contents of a Folder to another PST.
Select All > Copy > Paste or
Select All > Copy to Folder...
