Exporting/Importing Excel

What's the best way to go about importing/exporting data
in excel? Mainly workbooks. Thanks!

Jo,
For non-timescaled data the easiest way is through an import/export map.
You can find details on that process in the Project Help file. Just type
"export" into the answer wizard.

Basically a "static" import/export consists of using one of the default
export maps or creating your own. The map matches task, resource, and/or
assignment fields from Project to fields in an Excel worksheet. To get a
quick look, from your Project file go to File/Save As and select
Microsoft Excel Workbook in the "Save as Type" selection box at the
bottom of the Save As window. When you hit "Save" an export mapping
window will appear. Select a default map or hit "New Map" to bring up
the definition window for import/export maps.

If you need to export timescaled data (e.g. Resource or Task Usage
data), use the "Analyze timescaled data in Excel" add-in found on the
"Analysis" toolbar. If for some reason the Analysis toolbar is not
available, go to the MVP webpage at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs
and look for FAQ 46 - "Analysis toolbar"
You can also download the add-in from the Microsoft webpage at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads

If you need to import timescaled data from Excel, you can write (or have
someone write for you) a VBA macro. This basically uses the reverse
process used by the add-in. It does require VBA experience but has the
most flexibility in being able to do exactly what you need. A custom
macro can also be used to export any kind of Project data to Excel.

Hope this helps.
John
