Exporting MSP 98 .mpp to .mpx files.

We have a need to export MSP 98 plans to .mpx in order to
import it into another app for management purposes.

It appears that when you add the "Effort Driven" field to
the export map, this field is excluded from the export,
thus doesn't appear in the .mpx. Anyone else can replicate
this issue?

Another isse that I found, is that the "Type" field for
Task Type, no matter what option is used (Fixed Duration,
Fixed Units or Fixed Work), the export to .mpx sets the
field value as simply "fixed"...

We export to a .mpx file, if we then load that .mpx file
back into MSP, the plan doesn't reflect what was exported
(with no changes made).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

There should be a document on your Project CD that describes the .mpx
format. Note however that later versions of Project don't support .mpx any
more (basically because it doesn't fully support Project 98 features
onwards. The replacement is save as .xml file, which faithfully records all
project data. Ask your program suppliers when they are updating to using xml
then get Project 2003.

MPX simply doesn't support these fields, and many other fields.

The MPX file format was introduced early in MSProject's life (v1?) and was
updated a couple of times - finally resulting in MPX4 which roughly
corresponds to the capabilities of MSProject4.1

New features in subsequent versions of MSProject were NOT incorporated into
a revised MPX specification. The ability to save MPX was omitted from
MSProject 2000 (or was it 2002?), and I think MSProject2003 can't even open
MPX.

hope this helps
