Exporting query

In Outlook 2003, what is the difference between an appointment created
and displayed in the programme (which I can export as an ics or vcs
file) and one created on my PDA and subsequently synchronised to
Outlook, which I can't export?

If I take an appointment I can't export and then copy and paste it
back into the day's schedule, suddenly I can export it. Is there some
tag somewhere I haven't/can't see that says 'you didn't create this
appointment in this programme on this machine so I won't let you
export it????
