Please can someone tell me how to export spreadsheets from excel to indesign whilst retaining its formats and tabs

When I copy spreadsheets in excel and paste in place in indesign its not editable anymore...
can someone explain why??/

Because InDesign is *not* a spreadsheet program and what you're pasting is
essentially a "foreign" object. To receive any possibly suggestions,
however, you'll need to indicate exactly what versions of Excel & InD you're
using as well as what your intended objective is.
