exporting to .rge from IMAP account

Hello,

First the basics. Running Entourage 2004 on a new intel based MacBook.
Software updated to version 11.2.5

I have an IMAP account that my previous employer created for archiving
my mail. I would like to save all those emails to a RGE file so i have
them when my access to that account goes away in a few months.

When I go through the export command and create an RGE file, the file
does not contain all the folders or messages from the IMAP account. In
fact the only ones that are exported are the folders I have visited
since connecting to the IMAP (i,e. message lists were updated). I have
a lot of folders so making sure updated message lists manually in every
folder and subfolder is very cumbersome.

Anyone have ideas on what I can do to read updated the message lists
for all the folders and subfolders automatically rather than going to
each folder manually?

My folder structure has the all my folders as subfolder to the Inbox
folder. So if I could get entourage to update the INBOX and all its
subfolders, I should be golden but I can not figure out how to update
message lists for subfolders.

Thanks in advance for the help.

This is a basic limitation of the way that IMAP works - messages aren't
downloaded until they are needed. In folders that haven't yet been visited,
not even headers are downloaded.

Three things to do to improve the situation:

1. make sure that all folders are 'subscribed' - click on the account icon
in the folder listing - all the folders will be listed in the right hand
window. Any folders that aren't coloured blue, are not subscribed. Select
them and click the 'subscribe' button in the toolbar.

2. set Entourage to check all folders - under the Tools menu, select
'Accounts', then double-click your IMAP account in the list of Entourage
accounts to edit it. Select the 'Options' tab and check the last box in that
window "check for unread messages in subscribed folders"

3. download full messages instead of headers only - in that same options
window, check the box to "always download complete message bodies", but do
not check "in inbox only".

Hopefully, after the next mail check (which may take some time, because it
has to download all the messages on the server) you will have all messages
available to export.

I followed the 3 steps above but my exported file still does not
contain the complete list of folders or message bodies.

I will try the manual method of downloading messages for each folder
individually to see if that works.

Last update. When I manually went to each folder, Entourage downloaded
the message list. Then on the next send and recieve it downloaded the
message bodies.

Based on this I would say my initial problem was that Entourage was not
automatically downloading the message lists for the folders even though
they appeared to be subscribed to.
