Expression Builder cuts off long expressions

I need to calculate a value based on various combinations of values of 5
fields. Because of this, the expression I am using (a combination of an Iif
clause and a Switch function) gets rather long (a couple of lines in
TextPad). I created the expression in TextPad and inserted it in the
Expression Builder. When I close the Expression Builder, it cuts the
expression apparently randomly some place near the end of the expression.

Is there any limit as to how long an expression in the Expression Builder
can get? If so, is there any workaround?

There is probably a limit. Have you considered NOT creating this complexity
in an expression in a query? I would expect this should be modeled in tables
or created in a user-defined function.
