"extend.dat" error message

Travis

I'm running Outlook 2002 on Windows XP Home Edition. When I
first installed, everything worked fine. A day later, I got
an error message stating

"An extension failed to initialize. Can't open file:
extend.dat. The file may not exist, you may not have
permission to open it, or it may be open in another
program. Right-click the folder that contains the file, and
then click Properties to check your permissions for the
folder. You don't have appropriate permissions to perform
this operation."

The file exists, I am an administrator on this computer,
and the folder permissions are set to read and write.
Beyond that, I'm stumped.

Thanks,

Travis

The file is probably corrupted. Rename it to extend.dat to extend.old when
Outlook is closed.

We are also on Outlook xp, but under Windows nt. For
whatever it's worth, here's what we do to fix it.

1. Close all open applications
2. Reinstall Internet Explorer (we have 5.5).
3. Restart computer
4. Reinstall Acrobat Reader (we have 4 and 5).
5. Restart computer, if needed.

I don't know if these exact steps will work for you, or if
it's something inherent in the processs that's fixing it
for us...
