Extending OLAP cubes in Project Server 2003

Hi,

We need to extend the OLAP cube for per-task reporting and perhaps for analyzing issue and risks (Share Point) in the future.

"Any Project level or Resource level Enterprise Custom Outline Code that you
define, automatically becomes a dimension in the Cube. Task-level codes do
not.

It’s well known. MS included only project and resources dimensions to the cube by default. Task dimensions aren’t included.

So far we have 2 cubes (and 1 virtual), see below, only outline codes related to Projects and Resources can be used in Portfolio Analyzer.

We need to add a cube like MSP_TASKS_... and add it to MSP_PORTFOLIO_ANALYZER

What has been done:

1. Add Task Outline codes to Project's Portfolio Analyzer OLAP cube

Very interesting solution, using VBA , works, but “no value†is indicated, we can’t categorized our tasks. All tasks in one big pile “no valueâ€

2. Solution Starter.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...j2003_ta/html/ODC_PJSolution_Starter_OLAP.asp

It’s the main source on this issue.

We see new dimensions, but no data.

Mr_Tom

I hope that someone from Microsoft is reading this!!!
I am running into the same problem... my client wants to report and
analyse based on TASKS and not always by project only.
I have been working through the SDK and the OLAP Extensions from
Microsoft.
The closest I came was in the example with the "TaskEarnedValue" ... I
got it working and the breakout DLL compiled etc... but this is still
not giving me the drill-down of the tasks per project.
I think there must be more of us asking for this, since many project
managers resource, plan and bill BY TASK and not by project.
We love the OLAP cube features... but why is there no TASK DIMENSION
linked for the Portfolio Analyser???

I will monitor this thread in the hopes that someone "out-there" has
done this customization and has some pointers for me!

Thanks!!!!

Thomas
