Extending the OLAP Cube

John

We would like to extend the OLAP Cube with additional project information.
The fields (start, finish, actual start, actual finish, baseline start,
baseline finish) are already in the MSP_VIEW tables. What steps do I need to
take in order to get these fields in the cube? I've read about the
PROJOLAP.dll, but I'm not sure how to do this. Can someone help with this?

Hi John,

In the future, please use the microsoft.public.project.developer newsgroup
for development questions.

That out of the way, I would suggest you download the MS Project SDK. It
contains "OLAP Breakout" code that allows you to add earned value data to
the OLAP cube. You will need Visual Basic 6 to re-purpose the code.

Hi John,

I have written a white paper on this topic. If you will send me an email I
will respond with a copy of my final draft.

Bob, please forward a copy of your paper to me at

Thanks, we've been looking at the possibility of adding a 'weeks' time
dimension to the cube as well as task level timephase data. Any opinion on
the advisability for an enterprise with 500 projects and approx 450 resources?

Hi Bob,
I am also looking into extending the OLAP cube to include task
information (eg. Milestones in project plans). Could you also send me a
copy of your white paper on this subject to (e-mail address removed)

Thanks,

Peter

Bob .. Seems to be a popular request -- I'd like a copy of your white
paper as well. Would you send me a copy or post it ?

cheers...

Hello Bob.
We are currently using EPS 2003 and also have need to do cube extentions.
Could you provide either a url to link to your white paper or send copy via
email?

I am most interested in learning as much as possible on this topic. I have
downloaded the 2003 SDK for Project Server but not able to really focus on
its content while doing my day job(PM, EPS Admin, etc..) also - so any
additional concise instuctions/directions would be a Great help.
Thanks
Jackie

Dale,
thanks for the URL. However, I can not access as when I click on doc to do
download I receive a login box and I used the same username and pw as used
for the discussion group but does not work. How can I gain access to download
or read doc?
THanks
Jackie

Hello Bob,
We are also wanting to do some extensions on our OLAP cube. Would you be
able to send me a copy of your white paper?
**We are using EPS2003 SP3
Thanks,
Jackie

Is there anything out there for Project Server 2007? I don't see any of the
EVM fields in the 14 default cubes.

Ivan --

I'm not aware of an extender for Project Server 2007. Perhaps someone else
in this group has an idea for you.

Dale,

I guess maybe somebody has an idea on how I could pull those fields into
some executive dash board reports using excel services? I have an Excel
webpart that can pull together the costing information for projects, but the
dashboard needs to include % complete and start/finish as a report instead of
the views that can be created within Project Web Access. Any clever ideas
you could suggest?
