External cross references

What's a good way - if there is any - to have cross-references among
word documents that are, if not auto-updating, at least all gathered
together in one place in each document so the are easy to find for
updating manually?

Can this be done in a master document? Are there other reasons -
upgrade or limits to growth - that I would want to avoid using master
documents?

Is it possible to have auto-updating External cross references between
word docs and excel docs?

Hi,

You can insert an updatable INCLUDETEXT field. The INCLUDETEXT field is
similar to the REF field, but refers to text in another file. The syntax is
{INCLUDETEXT "filename" [bookmark]}. If you want to create the field
manually, type everything within the brackets (but not the brackets), and
then select it and press Ctrl+F9. Don't forget to create the target bookmark
in the other document.

Thanks - I'll give it a go.
