External Link issue on Project Server

Hello--

We have schedules on the Server that have finish-to-finish external links to
other plans on the server. When the predecessor schedule data updates, the
successor schedule is not updating the receiver task after the predecessor
information is updated. We are 'accepting all' changes in the pop-up window
that appears when opening the successor schedule. Now the successor schedule
is very large (over 2000 line items) and there are many external links in the
successor schedule. Is the size of the successor schedule & numerous
external links the potential issue? When the successor schedule was smaller
(under 1000 line items), we did not have this issue.

Thanks.

In order for the successor schedule to update, someone must open it. In
order for those updates to be visible in PWA, that same someone must Publish
new and changed and save and close the plan. Are you completing these steps
each time linked plans are updated?

We have various schedules externally linked to other schedules in our
Terminal/Project Server environment. After a predecessor schedule changes,
the successor schedule would receive the changes (upon accepting the changes)
and the appropriate schedule dates would change in the successor schedule.
We are finding that the planned dates are changing properly in the successor
schedule via the external linking capability. However, we are finding that
actual dates are NOT being updated in the successor schedule upon accepting
actual date changes from the predecessor schedule. This problem is only
occurring for one successor schedule that is very large in size (2500 line
items). Do you think the size of the schedule is preventing the actual dates
from being updated?

I suppose this could be caused by constraints or circular relationships
between the shedules. It would be difficult to say without hands on the
plans. Certainly, we'd need a description of the windows you do see when you
open the plan, an exact description of your actions and the system responses
and maybe how the Project Client options are set.
