External program/file/task opening/running from Outlook Calendar

Hello:

Suppose I create a "New Appointment" in Outlook Calendar (and set an
appointment reminder as well).

What I would like to do is automatically run/open some program/file
(say, an existing PDF document) come the (reminder) time.

Is there any way this sort of automation can be enabled in Outlook?
