Extra junk in style definitions

T

Tim Murray

I get these in docs that get sent to me. For example, a certain bullet
definition is left indent at 4.5 pica with 1.5 pica hang. There is one
tab set at 6 picas. The Custom Bullets and Numbering dialogue matches.

But in the Modify Style dialogue box, in addition to the expected stuff
above, it also includes Aligned at: 4.8 pi + Tab after: 6.3 pi + Indent
at: 6.3 pi.

Another example is a style that says in addition to expected stuff,
(Asian) Chinese (PRC). The style's language is English.

Where does that extra crap come from? Styles work okay funcionally, but
this still a curiosity.

Hi Tim:

No asking hard questions after lunch! You know the rules!!

The first one is "probably" someone playing around with the alignment of the
number. If you get into "Customise" in the Bullets and Numbering part of a
style, you will find that you can set a position for the number, left,
right, or centred, and if you do, that you can set an alignment for it.

The second one is a document that has been created in a copy of Word that
has Chinese installed, or is a Chinese version. The Asian languages have an
extra set of language attributes to cater for the different layout
requirements of ideographic characters.

Ask "thg" when he stops by: he works in Chinese or Japanese, he will know
all about it.

Hope this helps
