I've been given a document to edit, which the original author set up to be
printed double-sided (blank pages inserted at appropriate locations).
The document has an unnumbered cover page with a manual page break at the
bottom of it. Then there's a blank back side of the cover (also unnumbered),
with a section break (next page) on it. Then there's the TOC page, which will
be numbered iii.
When I view the document on screen, there's only one blank page between the
cover and the TOC, but when I print it or create a PDF, there are two.
If I put my cursor at the bottom of the cover immediately before the page
break, it says I'm on page 1. When I use the arrow key to move the cursor one
space to the right, it puts me immediately before the section break and says
I'm on page 2. But when I move one more space to the right, it puts me in
front of the word Contents and says I'm on page 4.
I've accepted all changes between the cover and the TOC, and it still
behaves the same. I've checked page layout and paragraph formatting, and I
don't see anything weird there. I've shown hidden text, and there's nothing
showing.
I'm running Office 2003 on XP Professional.
Any ideas on what's creating my phantom page?
