Extra Space Between Footnotes

I am trying to delete an extra space between 2 footnotes. I know that I
cannot delete the paragraph symbol at the end of the footnote. How do I get
this space out of the footnotes?

Thank you!

Sometimes Word starts acting up by inserting extra vertical space here
and there, especially between the footnote area delimiter line and the
footnote area, and then I just close the document and reopen it.

Keep in mind that Word is a Microsoft product.

That means: logic does not necessarily apply. ;-)

Check the paragraph formatting to make sure that it doesn't include any
Space Before/After. Also check the Layout tab of Page Setup to make sure
that the vertical alignment is set to Top and not Justified. If there is
actually an empty paragraph (extra paragraph mark) between the footnotes,
try different combinations of backspace and delete in various locations.
Eventually you'll find one that will work.

I have closgd and opened this document many times. That is not the problem,
there is something going on. The space is between footnote 40 and footnote
41. I've tried selecting them and clicking on format & single space, but it
is already single spaced. There is a paragraph symbol at the end of footnote
40, when I click on it, I get an error message that says it is not a valid
function in footnotes. I can't put the cursor in the space, word won't let
me. I am at my wits ends with this space.

Hi Suzanne,

I clicked on #41's footnote anywhere then hit Format-->Paragraph. There was
a 12 in the "space before" box, so I changed the 12 to a zero in the "space
before" box. This solved the problem.

Thank you so much for your help!

I can understand why people do that (for the same reason they multi-post
here), but it really frosts me when I spend fifteen minutes answering an
AllExperts question and then come to the NGs and find that the same question
has been asked (by the same person) here and already answered.

Just want to thank you so much for both your and Anne's help. I can tell you
that I didn't realize that all experts and the mvps were the same people.
Also, I didn't go to all experts until I got a response here (the post before
yours) that was not the answer. I came here for a last resort after hours of
trying to figure out the space issue & really appreciate you spending your
time answering my question.

Thanks again,
Stephanie

AllExperts and MVPs are not the same people, but there is a certain amount
of overlap between the "experts" at AllExperts and the NG regulars here.
