extract database diagram tables' information

T

Timothy

Dear all,

I am trying to extract tables' definitions from a db diagram. i referenced
the obj lib, version 11, and i can reach the shapes (document -> Page ->
Shapes) level. but from there, no more information can be found (tables,
cols, keys).

Can someone tell me which obj or collections holding those info?

Thanks !!

Timothy

In the past, someone described it here in this group.
Every information is saved in the drawing, it might be found in the drawing,
if you save the darwing as XML, you can see a part of them when you change
the file from vsx into xml, other part is written in human unreadable
language that is usally used in e-mail encoder.

thanks a lot for the hint.

Information is clear to see in xml. and the detailed information of those
tables, cols, is actually under another shape.

Say, the current shape is a table, there is a shapes obj. In side the
collection, 2 shape objs there (looks each row is a shape), and inside each
shape, the infor are stored in the text field.

Timothy

What for do you need this information?

You might consider using Visio 2003 Enterprise Architect (EA) version,
wich has "direct engeneering" support,
I.e. it is capable of generating DDL scripts, creating the databases,
generating the database reports.

This might free you from scratching out the funny stuff from Visio
shapes.

Kind regards, Nikolay.
