Extracting Data From Work Space To Display On Website

Our company is interested in what the possibilities are with Groove and
extracting records from a forms tool and being able to retrieve it through a
website. I know that Groove is SQL based and therefore wonder if it is
possible to have a custom website built that would be able to extract data
from a custom made forms tool to a website. For example we have a forms tool
that we have developed that our Travel department uses to book hotels,
flights, rental cars etc, and rather than allowing Employees into that
workspace, we would have a custom site built that would extract records for
the employees so that they could see all of this information without being a
member of that workspace.

Any information that you could provide regarding whether or not it is
possible to potentially develop such a site based on Groove’s abilities would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi K -

Yes, it is possible and we've got a couple of products that make it easy.

* Toucan Reporter is a report generator for Groove Forms. You could save
the reports as PDF or HTML files and upload them to your web site. As of
this week, it works with Groove 3.1 but the Groove 2007-enabled version
will be released VERY soon and is already available to purchasers of the
3.1 version.

* Toucan Bambuco is a powerful scripting system for Groove. You can
write scripts to extract, combine and publish Groove data in whatever
form you want. Contact me for more info, or a demo.

So I take it creating some kind of ODBC reproting tool would be out of the
question when attempting to do the same thing. I got a response back from
Groove and they also mentioned buying and implementing a Groove Data Bridge.
Just trying to find the most effective and economical way to go about doing
this. Thanks for any additional info!

Even the Groove Data Bridge would not get you any further, since it
doesn't include actually include any end-user reporting tools as far as
I know, just a fatter implementation of Groove Web Services.

Did I forget to mention that Toucan Reporter is a free download? The
_current _free version (only works with Groove 3.1, folks!) has some
limits not present in the paid-for ($79) version. Chiefly, you don't get
the fancy wizard for quickly building reports, but you can do the same
job manually.

The next version gives you the wizard but limits the number of rows you
can work with, in the free version. Obviously there'll be no limits in
the paid-for version. :)
