I could later use as a background ?

Yes it's possible, but it depends which version of PowerPoint you're
using, so let us know & we'll try & help

Yes.

Select the picture, press Ctrl+C to copy it.
Start MS PhotoEdit (you might have to rerun Office setup if you didn't
originally install it)
Choose Edit, Paste as New image (or words to that effect)

Save as PNG or JPG or whatever you need.

There are simpler ways of doing this on some versions of PowerPoint. The
directions that Steve has given you will work for all versions. But as Phil
suggested, knowing your version may mean less complication.
