An index generated for multiple Word 2000 files contains
extraneous entries with no text but only page number
entries. Additionally, entries are under the wrong letter
heading (i.e., "Washer" is under "B" instead of "W"). The
index entries were manually marked in each file by
inserting XE field tags. The index was generated by
opening a blank Word document, and creating RD field codes
referencing each file. After each RD field code was
created, I went to Insert>Index and Tables to generate the
index.
To troubleshoot, I have removed every XE tag from each
file and then generated the index again. The index still
showed page number references but without text.
