Extraneous prompt to save file

M

Maudie

Often I'll open a Word file just to check something and when I go to close it, I am asked if I want to save it, despite having not made any changes. It's really irritating, and I'm wondering what might cause it? Thanks.

The usual reason is field updating (you can check Word's Undo list to see if
that's the case), but if this is Word 2002, it could be due to Smart Tags.

Though You Have Made No Changes” at

You'll get this if there are any fields that automatically update
themselves, the usual one is where the doc has a date field. All Word
"knows" is that it made a change to the date field and figures it better ask
you if you want to save the change.
