A while ago I had message in this group describing a very annoying
font-problem in Word (and Excel).

When I launch the aspplication, the splash-screen will appear and go through
the usual setting-up routine, but then it'll get to "Optimizing Font Menu
Performance", stay there for a while (longer than normal) and then
errormessages will start appearing.

First errormessage saying "The Font VT100 is corrupt and should be removed"
- it used to be Verdana in the first one. I don't even have a font called
VT100 - at least I can't find one when I do a Cmdd-F in the Finder.

So far I've tried removing the Office Font Cache (11)from
home/library/preferences/Microsoft.
I've run two diifferent SystemUtilities, Tiger Cache Cleaner (TCC) and
YetAnotherSystemUtility (YASU), to clean the system Cache. That does solve
the problem for a while, but the second or third time I launch Word or Excel
after running the cleanup, the problem returns.

The really annoying part is, that tthere is nothing I can do except
force-quit the app. So actually Word and Excel are non-usable to me right
now. And this is very annoying.

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks
Carsten

Hi,

You won;t find it like that. VT100 is a subset of VT102Font, so it won't
appear through command-f.
The font in one of the MacOS 9 fonts located in /System Folder/Fonts
It's probably corrupted. Move it to the desktop and try launching the
app again,

Thanks a lot Corentin. That actually solved it. I removed the Font-folder
from the OS9 System Folder to the desktop, trashed the Office Font Cache
(11), rebooted and launched Word with no problem. I really hope this is my
solution.

Do you have any good suggestions as to what to do with the OS9 fonts now?

Thanks

I'm glad it worked :)

Keep them if you ever use Classic - you'll need them. You'll have to
keep in mind though that they are also accessed by the System and could
be (just like any other font) the source of problems and conflicts.
I decided to invest a while agoa into a more serious application to
check and fix my fonts (I use FontDoctor) but the Font Book in Tiger can
do a pretty good job at organizing the fonts and even checking their
"health" (there is a function to "validaet" the fonts). It's an app to
explore and use :))

I can't seem to find this Font Book-app. that you mention. Is it supposed to
be in Tiger?

Can I download it somewhere?

Yes, it's in Tiger's Applications folder.

Yes, it's in Tiger's Applications folder.

I found it. I was looking for the English name Fontbook, but my system is
Danish so it's called Skriftbog !!

Thanks

glad you found it...
