Extremly slow to send attachments

Dan Lidholm

Hi,

When I'm trying to send e-mail with an attached file (for example 2 mb) it
takes up to 15 minutes to send the mail. This happend after installing Office
2003 on a brand new laptop with Vista Business.

Here's some notes about the problem.
1. A mail whitout attachment are sent and received at once.
2. The antivirus software, NOD32, has been turned of with no result.
3. The E-mail server (POP3) works when sending mail from other computers.
4. The connection is not the problem since I tried to send from different
locations.
5. No additional software firewall (except windows firewall) installed.

Specs
Office 2003 Small Business edition
Windows Vista Bussiness edition
Antivirus software: NOD32
Laptop: Zepto 34115, 2.00 GHz Intel® Core™2 Duo T7300 800MHz.

2 Mb is rather large for an email. I'd say it is to be expected. 2 mb,
however, would go in a flash - that's "m" for "milli".

Ok, 2 Mb it is. But it's not so large for an email and it takes about 20
seconds to send the same email from another computer.

Usually I would suggest that you check for 3rd party applications that might
be slowing down the send. You've done that. Maybe the server timeout is
different or not high enough. Try increasing it. Try removing the account
then add it back. Try sending through another account (use a Gmail accoutn
to test with if you don't have another POP3 account) and see if the speed is
more acceptable.

Thanks for the tips. I've already done it all and it didn't change a thing.
I have also sent the exact same mail from the same place and the same
account from two laptops with the same version of Outlook and the same
antivirus software, Nod32. The difference is that one has Vista and the other
one XP sp2. XP works fine, but not the one with Vista.

Tricky problem.

Not just the email integration, i turned Nod32 completely off. No change
there. I don't think Nod32 is the problem but i will try to uninstall it. I
let you know if it worked later on.
