F4 (repeat key) provides only partial repeat

Quick question; I've used F4 extensively in Word 2000
and have been using it in 2003 to repeat formatting
commends and to quickly repeat typing.
The feature in Word 2003 works fine for formatting;
however, for a convenient way to enter repeated text, the
feature is dropping the first letter of the repeated
word. For example, if I type "Status" and hit F4, I
get "atus."

Ideas?

Thanks again, all.

I've noticed that, too. It's odd and annoying, isn't it? Have you checked
the Undo list to see what "steps" Word is putting there?

All right, dammit. For months, this has been bugging me,
and now (planetary allignment? VP debate? Cost of oil?)
it's working fine. I tried to check the Undo function,
but it only captures "typing" when I try to see what it's
grabbing. And now, Lo!, it's working.

You've got amazing power, Suzanne. I have no idea how
you did that to my machine.

Cheers, Bella.

It's one of those intermittent things. I noticed the same thing on my
computer as soon as I answered you. I wonder if it results from a slight
hesitation after capitalizing?

We're on the same page, O Wunderkind of Word. I noticed,
too, that capitalization seems to be a culprit, but I
successfully performed a "repeat" of the test
phrase: "Patient 04-005 could care less about this
study" (hardspace after Patient; nonbreaking hyphen after
04; long pause after the capital P). It works over and
over and beyond. I'd hate to think that just outing the
glitch in newsgroup conversation fixed the problem.

A karma test: Have you noticed that neither of us ever
win the lottery? (report back if you win)

I'll try to duplicate the F4 problem subsequent to
different keystrokes and actions and report back.

Good to hear from you, as always.
