F4 to edit references in formulae

A recent post on the use of the F2 key to edit cells triggers me to
pose a similar question: how can I get Mac XL 2004 to recognise the
F4 key as the switch for realative / absolute references (as for xL
for windze) instead of Cmd T. It does not seem possible to simply
map Cmd T to f4....

thanks

AFAIK, this is not possible (unless you perhaps use some sort of
system-level mapping software like QuickKeys). Since that shortcut works
only when in Edit mode, and macros are suspended in Edit mode, one can't
use VBA to intercept the key.

Yeah... the closest *internal* control I've found is the Dollar Sign command
to which you can assign a keystroke. Problem is: It only inserts the $
symbol & has to be keyed for each one, making it nothing more than the
"customized" equivalent of Shift+4 - quite a time & labor saving advantage,
huh? Also, if you select a complete reference or range while editing it
*replaces* the selected stuff with a $ rather than applying an abs ref.
