F9 doesn't update my Table Of Contents

I have a large document (currently ~43 meg with change tracking on) which I
deleted a large amount of text to split that off to a new document. After
doing so, if I try to add new section headings or modify text in existing
section headings, F9 or right click update field doesn't pick up the changes
when I select Update Entire Table. I'm using Office Word 2003 (11.6359.6408)
SP1.

Uhm... Did you use heading styles for your new section headings?
