Fading images after insertion in slides

When inserting images (jpegs etc) into a slide with text how do I get the
image to fade after Entrance animation. If I select the fade option it takes
the image out of the slide entirely.

I have found an option which fades the text on a slide but this is not what
I want.

Basically I need to insert an image, fade it, and then have my text coming
in over the faded image.

Assuming you are using PPT 2002 or higher, choose the Custom Animation of
Emphasis, Transparency to follow your entrance animation. You can set the
transparency to the desired level and it will automatically be set to last
until the end of the slide.

Just wondering...is there a way to make this transition to transparency a
smooth fade instead of just "popping" to the transparency effect? In other
words, how can I make a photo slowly dissolve/fade to the transparency effect?

Thanks!
