Failed OneNote Installation

I downloaded the trial version of OneNote and tried to install it on my
computer at work. Before I got to the point where the serial number is
requested, the program halted and I got a message that the installation had
failed.

I have managed to install it on my home computer without difficulty, but
when I suggested that my husband download his own trial version for his home
computer, he had the same problem with a failed installation.

What's the story?

It seems like an interesting program but I'm not paying good money for
something that I can't even install. Microsoft gives no support on trial
versions and the OneNote Knowledge Base on Installation Troubleshooting is
worthless.

Thanks for your reply. I can't recall the exact exact error message but it
was short and in a pop-up box. It was something like "OneNote installation
failed." It gave no specific error code and wasn't particularly descriptive
(hence my confusion). It also had an OK button to click to close the window.

The only other similarity that I could think of is that both computers where
the installation failed were configured in a RAID1 config. whereas the
computer where the installation was successful had a usual hard drive config.
Don't know if that would make any difference.

I'm away from my usual computer for the next week or so and can't recheck
the error message or try the Knowledge Base suggestion. However, since the
knowledge base document referred to Office 2003 and not One Note, is it even
relevant?

After many weeks of frustration in not being to install OneNote on one of my
computers (it installed fine on others), I found this on Microsoft's
knowledge base -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;871218

Basically, if you have the problem you are having, you should delete
"Temporary Internet Files" before installing OneNote. I had the same error
you did and this fixed it up for me. I hope it does for you too. Good
luck.

Interesting suggestion. I tried it a few minutes ago but unfortunately it
doesn't do the trick for me. Thanks anyway.
