Failed to provision site PWA

M

Mattyw

Hi

I've been working on MOSS for some time now in a DEV environment and
have recently installed Project Server 2007.

Everything installed fine up to the point where I try to Provision the
site in the SSP and I receive the "Failed - see the Event Log"
message.

All the DB's are created successfully on the SQL Server, so it doesn't
appear to be a SQL access issue.

My Current Config is:

DEV-SQLCLUSTER
Windows SharePoint Services Database

MOSS-DEV
Central Administration
Document Conversions Launcher Service
Document Conversions Load Balancer Service
Excel Calculation Services
Office SharePoint Server Search
Windows SharePoint Services Help Search
Windows SharePoint Services Incoming E-Mail
Windows SharePoint Services Web Application

APP-DEV
Project Application Service
Windows SharePoint Services Incoming E-Mail
Windows SharePoint Services Web Application

I'm using a Domain Account as the Project Server Admin account, the
same account that the SSP App Pool runs under.

I've seen quite a few posts on this from earlier in the year, however
no solutions.

I followed the following Technet Article to configure everything:

http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...d7c6-4108-b6fd-7eba162a5b621033.mspx?mfr=true

Appreciate some help as this is my first experience of using Project
Server and its not going great so far!

Thanks
Matt

2007 - Error Provisioning PWA - Scott Wagner [MCP, MVP]

Provision Office Project Server 2007 sites on the farm This final procedure
allows you to create the Office Project Server 2007 instance on the farm,
which is done through Central Administration. During this process, you
specify the Project Server administrator account, point to the database
server that will host the Office Project Server 2007 databases, and name
the Office Project Server 2007 databases.

Provision Office Project Server 2007 sites on the farm

1. From the top navigation on Central Administration, click Operations.

2. On the Operations page, in the Topology and Services section, select
Manage this Farm's Shared Services.

3. On the Manage this Farm's Shared Services page, in the SSP Name list,
select the Shared Services Provider in which you would like to provision
Project Web Access.

4. On the home page for this core service, in the Project Server section,
click Project Web Access Sites.

5. On the Manage Project Web Access page, click Create Project Web Access
Site.

6. On the Create a New Project Web Access page, do the following:

a. In the Project Web Access Site Location section, from the SharePoint
Web Application to host Project Web Access list, select the name of the
extended Web site you created to host the SharePoint site.

b. In the Project Web Access path box, enter the name you will use to
specify the URL to the Project Web Access home page (for example, if you
enter PWA, the URL to the home page would be http://servername/PWA).

c. In the Administrator Account section, type the Windows user account
that will be given administrative credentials to the Project Server
instance.

d. In the Primary Database section, type the name of the computer running
SQL Server on which the Published, Draft, and Archive databases will be
located. In the three Database Name fields, type unique names for each of
the three Office Project Server 2007 databases.

Note:

You can use the default database names. However, make sure that they do not
already exist on the computer running SQL Server.

e. In the Reporting Database section, select Use the primary database
server if you want the reporting database to be created on the Primary
database server that you specified in the previous section. If you want the
Reporting database to be created on another computer hosting SQL Server,
clear this option and enter the name of the SQL Server on which you want it
to be created. In the Reporting database name field, type a unique name
that you want to use for the Reporting database.

Note:

You can use the default database name. However, make sure that it does not
already exist on the computer running SQL Server.

7. Click OK. The provisioning process starts.

8. You will return to the Manage Project Web Access page. Click the
Refresh Status button to update the status of the provisioning process.
When provisioning is complete, Provisioned will appear as entry in the
Status column. When provisioning has been completed, you can click the URL
to go to the Project Web Access site.

Note:

Provisioning is an asynchronous process, so it might take a few
minutes before the job is complete.

Apologies I forgot to include them, all on the APP-DEV server which is

Hi Alexander

Thanks....those were the instructions I was following.

I have managed to resolve the problem this morning!.....on the
application server running Project Server I had only installed Project
Server
and not MOSS, bit of a silly mistake but I thought Installing Project
Server and then joining an existing farm would be enough as the
articles stated
that the Project Binary files need to be installed on all servers in
the farm.

I uninstalled Project Server, installed MOSS and joined the existing
farm, then installed the Project Server files and it works fine now!

Hopefully this will help anyone else who had the same problems as the
instructions from MS aren't clear.

Many thanks....I can enjoy the rest of my day now!

Cheers
Matt
