Failure of Update for Office 2003 (KB919029)

Please have your software technicians check update for Office 2003
(KB919029). Please note in the forum that no one has been able to
successfully load this update.

I tried on my three desk tops and my lap top with no sucess. Before you
suggest the "USUAL," uninstall and re-install - THAT DOES NOT WORK EITHER.

OK.. on the 'Microsoft' Update site, KB919029 registers as 0 kb.. if one

navigates to the new Microsoft Office online site and then clicks on 'Office

Update' in the Downloads column, left hand side, it asks to accept an active

x control, searches for any relevant updates, and then downloads a 75kb file

which installs without problem..

To make sure of this, or if the above does not work.. read the rest of this
post..

If you go back to Windows Update and click on the option to 'Change
settings', you can reset Microsoft Update back to Windows Update, which also
recovers Office Update as a separate entity again.. this gets over future
Office updates failing until such time as Microsoft Update becomes a
reliable source..

Hello,

The download is 201Ko : office2003-KB919029-FullFile-FRA.exe
but it does not work.

I could not find the 'Reset' or something else item...

cyrille

I followed your guidance, on all three of my systems, to the letter. It did
not install.

Sorry to hear that.. I had three failed attempts via Microsoft update, and
having switched back to Windows Update, accessing Office updates through the
older channel, they installed.. I wish I had an answer for you..

Regarding the install problem for KB919029: I went to my Control Panel
and then Add or Remove Programs, then selected Microsoft Office Small
Business Edition 2003, and then change. I was given the option to
repair or reinstall (I can't remember the exact language, but it was
clear to me at the time). My computer then ran through the diagnostics
and fixed whatever the problem was (I think it was a registry problem,
and I don't like to mess with those registry files if I can avoid it).
I was then able to go back to the Microsoft Office Updates website and
successfully download and install the KB919029 update. It was all
pretty quick (10-15 minutes, including leaving the room to go get
another cup of coffee).

I tried as Mike suggested. It worked for me as it worked for him. I would
try his solution.

Fix for me was to uninstall Microsoft Office 2003 Resource Kit. Patch
worked flawlessy on all other domain computer except mine which had the
Resource Kit installed. Once I removed, the KB919029 patch installed w/o
error.

Microsoft tool interferring w/patch. What's that all about ???

I don't know that this will help everyone but I was having trouble downloading several Office 2003 fixes. The problem turned out to be that the "Office Source Engine" was disabled. To find out go to C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office 11/1033/setup.chm/Office Source Engine.
